Albert S. Waxman
Dr. Albert S. Waxman founded New York City-based Psilos Group, a healthcare-focused venture and growth equity fund, after a lengthy career as a healthcare entrepreneur.
Through his activities at Psilos, Dr. Waxman serves on the board of several Psilos companies including HealthEdge Software (Chairman), HealthMine and Gamma Medica. He also served on the boards as chairman and/or director of ActiveHealth Management, Definity Health, Health Hero, Extend Health, Great Lakes Health Plan, Mauna Kea Technologies and QualityMetric.
Prior to founding Psilos, Dr. Waxman spent nine years as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Merit Behavioral Care (acquired by Magellan Health Services, NASDAQ: MGLN) and its predecessor companies, American Biodyne and Medco Behavioral Care. During this period, he brought American Biodyne public, led its sale to Medco Containment Services (acquired by Merck Corporation, NYSE: MRK), organized a KKR-led management buyout, and grew the company's revenues to over $800M.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Waxman founded and served as President, Chairman and CEO of Diasonics, Inc., one of the first medical companies to provide ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging in the U.S. Dr. Waxman holds several U.S. and foreign patents for display, imaging and diagnostic technologies and products.
Dr. Waxman holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics from Princeton University.
