Christopher D. (Chris) Bowers most recently served as the Executive Vice President of Markets at Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC), where he provided executive leadership for 27 health plans nationwide serving 11.4M members with full accountability for a $70B annual P&L.
In this EVP role, Mr. Bowers was responsible for developing strategic partnership plans, improving margins and driving membership growth and retention for all lines of business. He also served on the board for 10 Centene subsidiaries, including the three largest in New York, California, and Florida, each exceeding $10B in revenues.
Previously, Mr. Bowers served as the Senior Vice President, Health Plans Southern Region for Centene, where he directed managed care health plans across Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Washington and Texas with 1.8M members generating $5.4B in revenues, representing the highest margin-producing region in the company.
Mr. Bowers started his career at Centene as the President & Chief Executive Officer of Superior HealthPlan of Texas, where he spearheaded growth across four products and guided the organization to become Centene’s first $1B subsidiary. During his CEO tenure, Mr. Bowers launched STAR Health in Texas, the first Medicaid managed care program in the nation serving children and youth in foster care with critical healthcare services.
In addition to his work as an Operating Partner at Havencrest, Mr. Bowers serves as an Senior Advisor for McKinsey’s Health Care Practice and is a board director for several private healthcare companies.
Mr. Bowers earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services Management from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI.
