Sandra F. Ryan is an innovative Senior Healthcare Executive with 35 years of healthcare and leadership experience in various settings. Most recently, Ms. Ryan was Vice President of Health & Wellness for Walmart US, the world’s largest retailer boasting 2.3 million associates worldwide, 260 million customers served weekly, and $500 billion in annual revenue. As the leader of Walmart’s Care Clinic business, clinical services, quality and healthcare partnerships, Ms. Ryan led the strategic development and scale of retail health clinic business and operations with full P&L responsibility. Responsible for all clinical service and quality delivered for the Health & Wellness organization for 4,600 retail pharmacies, 2700 vision centers, and the Patient Safety Organization promoting a Just Culture shared accountability model.
Prior to joining Walmart, serving as the Chief Clinical Officer for CareCam Health Systems, a digital health company focused on using innovative mobile technology to drive decreased healthcare costs and improved clinical outcomes. Ms. Ryan was responsible for all clinical aspects in the development and design of a systems platforms to meet the needs of patients, providers and healthcare systems.
Previously, Ms. Ryan spent 8 years at Walgreens, the leading retail pharmacy chain with more than 9,000+ stores and 250,000 employees. She was one of six founding officers of pioneering retail health clinic operator Take Care Health Systems, which was acquired by Walgreens in 2007. Ms. Ryan was responsible for operational and clinical leadership of over 400 convenient care clinics nationally and had full P&L responsibility. At Walgreens she played an integral role in the development and implementation of integrated technology, quality assurance programs, and evidenced-based guidelines to create a consistent and unprecedented patient-focused experience for those who sought treatment. Ms. Ryan was the first chief nurse practitioner officer in the convenient care industry.
Ms. Ryan is a highly decorated retired Air Force nurse corps officer. She has been recognized for her leadership as the recipient of the Nancy Sharp Cutting Edge Award by the American College of Nurse Practitioners; as the first NP inducted as a Fellow of the Philadelphia College of Physicians; through her inductions as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a 2011 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow Alumnus; and by the Convenient Care industry as the recipient of the Loretta Ford Life Time Achievement Award for her contributions to NP practice and the retail industry. Recently 2018, recognized by the Pennsylvania Diversity Council, Most Powerful & Influential Woman of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Ryan earned a B.S.N. in Nursing from Niagara University, and an M.S.N. from Arizona State University.
